CENTER OPERATIONS DIRECTORATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Directorate Brief Description:
The Center Operations Directorate (COD) is a Core Resources Unit that serves the entire research,
engineering, administrative, and management community at Langley Research Center (LaRC) by providing
wind tunnel testing, facility engineering and maintenance, security, logistics management, real
property and space utilization management, environmental management, utility and energy management,
and Langley Management System support services. As a service organization, it is incumbent on COD to
provide essential facilities and deliver efficient and effective services at reasonable rates while
operating in a safe environment. COD provides services that enable NASA Langley to meet its
commitments.
Branch Brief Description:
The GIS Team is part of the Capital Assets Management Office.
Project Description:
This organization handles planning and management programs that include the Real Property Program,
Facilities Space Utilization and Analysis, and Master Planning. The GIS Team supports projects with
spatial data for Langley Research Center (LaRC) and NASA partners. Effort requires familiarity with
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated processes. Major responsibility at LaRC is
updating of Building Floor Plans, Space Utilization tools, utilities distribution systems, cultural
resources, and Master Planning with a focus on web based tools and state of the art information
technologies. Typical projects have included mapping environmentally or culturally sensitive areas,
collecting GPS data for utility systems, developing 3D models. Proficiency in digital cartography,
map design, surveying (GPS), or AutoCad desirable.
