FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

U.S. Citizenship:
All LARSS participants must be U.S. Citizens. Therefore, permanent residents and holders of visas or green cards are not eligible for the program. Dual citizens will need to indicate what other country they are a citizen of and possibly respond to additional security requirements.

Housing:
Housing arrangements and expenses are the sole responsibility of the student participants, including leases, rent payments, deposits, etc. Payments are made out of stipend provided. In an effort to help defray the cost of housing and assist in locating an appropriate housing option, the LARSS program staff will try to assist students in obtaining roommates and other housing information. However, you must indicate your interest in assistance in your application. If housing assistance is requested, please note that changing plans affects other designated roommates as well. The housing assistance by program staff is limited and subject to change. If selected, we will confirm your desire for assistance prior to assigning roommates.

Local Transportation:
Ultimately, transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the student. It is highly recommended that students plan to bring their own vehicles. The LARSS program staff will help students explore various transportation options if needed at his or her expense, i.e. Hampton Roads Transit System. Historically, students who have roomed together may plan to carpool together to work, especially if a roommate is without transportation. It is expected that carpool expenses, i.e. fuel costs, etc. will be shared.
